Meeting hosted by Mireille Provensal with the 5 seasons of Colmars.
The paths travelled, between Verdon and Ubaye, between Ubaye and Piedmont, are those of freedom, taken by resistance fighters against the German occupiers and their local henchmen. Discreet, difficult, dangerous, often nocturnal and traversed in the
snow. Paths of friendship and shared convictions, which crossed the border passes to forge the premonitory Saretto agreements with Italian partisans in May 1944, for the creation of a new Europe.
In Haut-Verdon and Ubaye, the Resistance was organized as soon as defeat set in. In 1943, the maquis were able to stand up to the German army
who carried out a harsh crackdown and a ferocious hunt for Jewish refugees hidden in several families in the two valleys.
In Ubaye, the Laverq maquis was founded by a Jewish family long settled in the Haut-Verdon. Supported by
supported by the valley’s farmers, the initial group was joined by a number of committed men, and by
fighters in 1944. It took part in the liberation of Colmars, then Provence as far as Nice. Its leader, Jean Lippmann, was shot in July 1944 in the upper Bléone valley. The presentation will tell the story of this very special maquis on the road to freedom.
