“Carried with immense pride by the torchbearers, watched with fascination by the public, the Torch is a mythical object, set apart in the world of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Torch is an object that carries the values and spirit of the Games, spreading them by carrying the Olympic Flame and then the Paralympic Flame across the territories and close to the people, and symbolically marking the opening of the Games with the lighting of the Flame. The Torch carries the Flame, which kicks off the celebrations with the start of the Olympic Torch Relay, and brings the Paralympic Games to a close when it is extinguished at the Closing Ceremony. Finally, the Torch, through its shape, color and inspirations, embodies the identity of each edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. At Paris 2024, the Torch will reflect our ambition for a French Games, with a strong aesthetic and creative dimension. With this unique and iconic object, we once again wanted to put form at the service of content, and it was with this in mind that we worked with the talented designer Mathieu Lehanneur. In our logic of creating bridges between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the latter already shared the same emblem and mascot with the former. At Paris 2024, we’ll also have a single Torch design. To create it, Mathieu Lehanneur drew inspiration from three decisive markers: Equality, found in its perfect symmetry; Water, recalled by the effects of relief and light; and Finally, Soothing, with the purity of its shape and rounded edges. We will also be working with the world’s leading steel company, ArcelorMittal, which will be responsible for manufacturing the 2,000 torches for the Paris 2024 Games, drawing on its know-how and power of innovation. In 2024, this Torch will be proudly displayed by the 11,000 bearers of the Olympic and Paralympic Flames, who will contribute to making the Olympic and Paralympic values shine. We are very proud to present the Paris 2024 Torch!”
