After 300 years of being crossed by a frontier, the upper Verdon valley could have been restored to a semblance of tranquility in the 18th century. But no!
Between local families, new arrivals and people passing through the valley for trade or military reasons, daily life as portrayed by court records was far from peaceful… Quarrels, attempted rapes, denunciations, assaults, poisonings, armed robberies, libertine gatherings, brawls and insults… No big cases, but plenty of “dirty business”! So many facts recorded by successive courts, as precious testimonies to the life of the valley’s inhabitants.
