  • Let's go back 40 million years, when the sea covered the region of Castellane. In these lagoons, peaceful marine mammals, the sirenians!
    Perhaps at the origin of the myth of the sirens, their story is told using
    life-size animal models, films and reconstitution of landscapes.

    life-size animal models, films and reconstitution of landscapes.

    At the Col des Lèques, 8 kilometers above Castellane on the road to Digne-les-Bains, lies the Valley of the Fossil Sirens. This paleontological site contains hundreds of bones belonging to an ancestor
    current dugongs and manatees. Protected by a site museum, it is possible
    to get there on foot in 30 minutes via a comfortable and equipped path.

    Because of the latest government measures, from tuesday 10th, august 2021, a sanitary pass will be requested at the Maison Nature & Patrimoines entrance.
