Génépi Pougnet

Verdon Tourisme > Génépi Pougnet
Thorame-Basse-en

There’s no need to try and find out the secret behind Jean-Jacques Pougnet’s Génépi. The result is worth the detour: a pronounced fragrance and taste of this mythical Alpine plant, which lasts long after the last sip…

For connoisseurs, there’s nothing quite like this famous traditional liqueur, which varies in color from yellow to green, depending on how it’s made. Jean-Jacques Pougnet has been making it in small quantities for a long time, in the most traditional way possible, in his small workshop in the village of Thorame Basse, at an altitude of 1145 meters.
The genepi plant is capricious: it only grows at a certain altitude. He harvests it when it is in full bloom, then dries it and bottles it himself, while his wife makes the labels. A family affair, then.
