Moriez-en

Established along the road linking Digne to Saint André, Moriez was a thriving business in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the manufacture of linen and the distillation of lavender. Its name comes from the Latin Muria, meaning salt, in connection with its salt well,

Apparently one of the oldest villages in the region, it boasts numerous monuments that bear witness to its rich past: Roman remains, a medieval keep, a salt fountain, the Romanesque church of Saint Barthélémy, noble residences dating from the 18th century… a stroll through the village will plunge visitors into the heart of several eras in the history of our region.

And don’t miss the “Plant Fair” in May, when the village is transformed into an open-air nursery! And don’t forget the “soirées blanches” in August….
