Castellane, the “happy” surprise!
Friday, March 3, 1815
Napoleon’s arrival in Castellane was a real surprise. At around noon, the column bursts into the main square, where the population is in a frenzy.

At the Hôtel de la sous-préfecture, Napoleon enjoys a meal
from a meal prepared at the inn.
Cries of “Long live the Emperor” are heard. Napoleon
is welcomed by the mayor, Saint-Martin, and the sub-prefect, Francoul, who was dismissed by Louis XVIII in January.
