Villages du Verdon — Toits d’Annot

Discover the villages

From the Haut-Verdon to the gateway to Provence, from Lake Castillon to the Verdon Gorges, the Alpes Provence Verdon region—comprising 39 municipalities—brings together villages that are all very different from one another.

Five flagship towns serve as focal points for exploration: Annot and its sandstone cirque, Colmars-les-Alpes and its Vauban ramparts, Entrevaux and its drawbridge, La Palud-sur-Verdon in the heart of the Gorges, and Saint-André-les-Alpes on the shores of the lake.

Surrounding them, 34 other hilltop or valley villages await exploration off the beaten path.

Annot

A village of character nestled in a geological site unique in Europe, Annot surprises with its medieval lanes, shady little squares and the extraordinary jumble of sandstone rocks that surrounds it. A historic stop on the Train des Pignes line between Nice and Digne-les-Bains, the village attracts hikers, climbers and heritage lovers.

Colmars-les-Alpes

At 1,250 metres in the heart of the Haut-Verdon, Colmars-les-Alpes has kept Vauban’s fortifications intact. Framed by the Fort de Savoie and the Fort de France, the fortified town is best explored on foot, among ramparts, cobbled lanes, shady squares and listed chapels.

Entrevaux

A Vauban fortified town listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Entrevaux is entered across its drawbridge and through its Porte Royale, remnants of the old border between France and Savoy.

La Palud-sur-Verdon

Perched at 930 metres in the heart of the Verdon Gorge, La Palud-sur-Verdon is built around its 18th-century château, now home to the Maison des Gorges du Verdon. The starting point of the Route des Crêtes and the Blanc-Martel trail, the village is the gateway of choice for hikers and climbers.

Nestled between the mountains and the turquoise waters of Lake Castillon, Saint-André-les-Alpes is a certified “Station Verte” resort in the Haut-Verdon. Renowned as one of the largest paragliding take-off sites in Europe, the village combines water sports on the lake, mid-mountain hikes and local heritage.
