Our favourite: the themed trains
The line linking Nice to Digne-les-Bains opened in 1911, with a total of 151 km of track and 1,000 engineering structures.
This railway holds a special place in Provence’s collective memory.
The steam locomotive has only one driver’s cab. To turn around and head back the other way, volunteers rotate it on a turntable by hand.

Full steam ahead, windows open, breathe in the scents of the forest or open spaces. You’ll have time to admire olive and chestnut groves. Passing through viaducts and tunnels, the locomotive takes you from Puget-Théniers to Entrevaux, as far as Annot, and sometimes as far as Le Fugeret. A feeling of time travel, taken from a Western film, a magical moment shared with family and friends, sure to delight young and old alike.
From May to October, the Train des Pignes steam train runs every Sunday, as well as on some Thursdays and Fridays in July and August, on Saturdays in September, and on the 1st Saturday in November. See all timetables
€23 per adult for a Puget-Théniers – Annot return trip
Is booking compulsory? Although you can buy your ticket on board the train, booking is strongly recommended. It is the best way to guarantee your seat
.Where can I buy steam train tickets? Tickets are available online and at our tourist offices (they can also be bought by phone).
From Nice station, choose a combined Chemins de fer de Provence + Train des Pignes steam train ticket.
In season, it is strongly recommended to book ahead if you would like to have lunch at a restaurant when you arrive in Annot. Fancy lunch in the open air? Several picnic areas are also available.

Where can I park in Puget-Théniers?
There is a free car park in front of the station and several car parks 300 m away, around the village square.
Dogs are welcome; please let us know when you book.
The steam train is not the only one to travel the line. Today, the cars on the regular line are modern and comfortable. Schoolchildren, workers and travellers in search of nature. The proud, up-to-date red and orange railcar whistles cheerfully at stations along the line from Nice to Digne-les-Bains.
