The Verdon is one of the most diverse outdoor destinations in the Southern Alps. Hiking, rock climbing in the gorges, mountain biking, rafting, paragliding, and swimming in mountain lakes. The Alpes Provence Verdon region offers activities for all skill levels and all seasons. In summer, the Verdon Gorges attract water sports enthusiasts and rock climbers. In winter, the Nordic resorts of Ratery 1700 and La Colle Saint-Michel welcome cross-country skiers and snowshoers.

Where, when, how? We tell you all about it in this section. Come on, everybody out!

The Verdon: A Region of Unspoiled Nature All Year Round

Nestled between the Alps and the Mediterranean, the Verdon region offers exceptional conditions for outdoor activities. In the summer, the Gorges du Verdon—ranked among Europe’s largest canyons—attract thousands of hikers, climbers, and kayakers. Lake Sainte-Croix and Lake Castillon are playgrounds for water sports enthusiasts and swimmers.

In the fall and spring, the larch, oak, and chestnut forests offer an ideal setting for hiking and mountain biking, with trails for all skill levels throughout the 39 municipalities of the Alpes Provence Verdon region. In winter, the peaks rising to over 2,000 meters are home to the cross-country skiing areas of Val d’Allos, Ratery 1700, and La Colle-Saint-Michel.

No matter the season, the Verdon is a destination that’s as much about active exploration as it is about simply taking it all in.
