Mémorial de Saint-Julien-du-Verdon
In Saint-Julien de Verdon, we remember. The horror of the tragedy is engraved in stone: “Here, on June 11 1944, 11 French patriots from the Resistance groups Corps Francs de la Libération and Combat in the Nice and Puget-Théniers area were cowardly shot and robbed.
Protected by a hedge of cypress trees, the 11 slabs form a Lorraine cross. At its base, a line of cobblestones forms the V of Victory. This symbol of Free France, emblematic of the fight for freedom, recalls the courage and commitment of these men to resist occupation and the Vichy regime.
